Zurich is currently looking for a Market Facing Underwriting Trainee, to support our Marine Underwriting Team working out of our San Francisco, CA, office.
Zurich’s Underwriter Trainee Program provides an entry level opportunity for individuals with the drive to become successful members of our underwriting team. This is an exciting way to begin a career in Commercial Insurance! While working within the structure of a formalized training program, you will learn the fundamentals of multi-line underwriting, including measuring exposure, analyzing risk, pricing, quoting, setting coverage, etc. The program starts June 2020 and will include 1-2 weeks of classroom training in our Schaumburg, IL office (housing accommodations provided by Zurich.)
Upon successful completion of the classroom training, underwriter trainees will work in a field or line of business office setting, and will continue to work with their manager, mentor, and peer underwriters to understand The Zurich Way of Underwriting and perform basic underwriting functions in a market-facing or product underwriting role.
Working within the structure of a formalized underwriting training program, individual will learn the fundamentals of insurance underwriting including reviewing the financial performance of diverse businesses, analyzing financial statements, measuring exposure, analyzing risk, pricing, quoting, setting terms and conditions, etc. Upon completion of the underwriting training, and under close supervision and guidance, Associate Underwriter will perform basic market-facing underwriting functions in a field office setting, working within defined authority levels.
- Bachelor's Degree and no prior experience required
- Travel to Schaumburg, IL for 1-2 weeks while participating in formal study/classroom training of program
- Bachelor’s degree and a final cumulative GPA at/above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or two Zurich Performance reviews with a Zurich Underwriter Recommendation
- Leadership experience
- Corporate internship experience or corporate work experience
- Leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities and on campus organizations and/or community, public service or similar activities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
